DD-WRT

DD-WRT, an awesome piece of code that has a long list of supported routers.  Found out about on redflags, A-Plus on Spadina and College was selling the refur routers for $23.  After doing some reading and learning that DD-WRT allows you to turn any router into an ehternet bridge I shot up there and bought two!  The firstworked well until one of the firmware flashs did not take.  AH!  Tried for about an hour to get it working before I called it quits.

Number 2!  Everything went to plan and now my xbox will wirelessly connect to my fileserver server and play movies.  Great times we live in.  XBMC wireless for $23!  Feel asleep yesterday watching Star Trek (orginal series).  Looking back now it seems fitting.

I returned the broken one today and have already loaded DD-WRT.  This one will be an access point / router to replace my ancient NetGear.

Syms.tv

I was using 2003 servers POP3 server service to setup a mail server @ work and it dawned on me, it was almost a year ago that I registered Symsnet.  The best $10 I ever spent.  Of course I wanted Syms.com but that has been takken for awhile.  I remember when I first wanted to register a domain syms.org was still available, but didn’t have the money, or just didn’t want to spent.  WTF, so I remember before registering symsnet that syms.tv was available, within a minute I did a search on google and register syms.tv on the first site that would let me do it.

So I thought I was the owner of syms.tv but the site I registered looks a little if’y!!!  I logged in to redirect syms.tv to symsnet.com and but when I type it syms.tv it redirected to the correct URL but it was a spoofed symsnet!!!  MF’ers, why give money to any company that will proof a site.

After some reading online, apparently Syms.tv, has to be in holding/approved for 12-24 hrs before is officially propagates to the name servers on the net.  So before I call Visa and get they to reverse the charges I’ll wait a day, see if this crap company comes through.  They seem to get good reviews online.

Frustrating experience, it will be easier one day when I own my own ISP/Domain Reg

DIY Bug

I’ve lived in our house for a year and 6 months now and even well before that I got this bug in which I had to try and do every possible home improvement myself.

I guess it was from watching Home Improvement as a kid, though as a kid I never cared much for the Man’s Bathroom they created.

The latest one is looking into creating an outdoor sauna myself.  I saw one on sale @ Costco for $1500, so I started looking how to do it myself.  I always start these things thinking I can do it cheaper but that never ends up being the case.  You tend to put more time, effort and expensive materials into something you do yourself.  Always seem to end up with more tools that way.

Don’t get me wrong I love doing these types of things but I always tend to start weeks, months, years later than when I would like because I’m scaried I don’t know how to do it, I’ll run out of money, there’s something else that needs to be done first.

Latest accomplishment, track lighting in the main floor closet.

1 down 20 more to go, eta 2010!

Introducing the Amazing Jesus!

Saw a King Of The Hill episode this afternoon where the Sunday school had a project where they had to do a report on charactors from the bible.  Bobby sucking up said Jesus, after just reading some excerts from the bible he put together the amazing jesus show.  I thought that was increbily orginal and fun, but the small town mentally of the show leads everyone in the crowd to gasp and faint.

If that were my kid, I would be very proud of something like that.
